Online gambling continues to gain in terms of popularity in Ireland with both online sports gambling and online casino gambling increasing all the time. Online sports gambling has benefitted from an increase in the range of sports offered by the online gambling sites, whereas the success of online casino gambling is down to the vast choice of gambling games. The biggest choice of casino gambling games comes in the form of a huge variety of slots gambling games, but traditional casino gambling games have also seen a number of different versions introduced by the online casino gambling sites. Poker is a typical example of how the online casino gambling site operators have been able to introduce new versions of the basic game. Clearly Texas Hold’em has rapidly become the favourite format for serious poker gambling fans, but along with other well-known poker formats such as Stud and Draw poker the online casino gambling sites are able to introduce new poker games. One of these is Pai Gow poker, a version of poker played against the house for fixed odds, therefore allowing the player to decide their own stakes and the degree of risk they want to take. Pai Gow is played with a standard 52 card deck plus one joker. The player and the dealer are both dealt seven cards from which they need to form two hands, one of five cards and the other with the remaining two cards. The five card hand must outrank the two card hand and the player must win both hands to take the pot. Be aware that in Pai Gow the dealer need only win the five card hand and tie the other hand to win. New players should also be aware that in Pai Gow the joker can only be used to form a straight or a flush in the five card hand, and is therefore not a universally wild card. Pai Gow is an excellent introduction to playing poker without the risk associated with some other forms of the game.
